Death toll in Kuwait Shia mosque suicide attack rises to 25

London, June 26 (ANI): The death toll from a suicide attack at one of the largest Shia mosques in Kuwait has risen to at least 25, the Arab nation’s interior ministry has said.

The ministry added that another 202 people have been injured. Images circulating on social media showed bodies lying on the mosque floor amid debris, reported the BBC.

The suicide bomber targeted the Imam al-Sadiq Mosque in the Sawaber district during the Friday prayers.

An Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) affiliate group, which calls itself the Najd Province, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group had earlier carried out similar attacks in neighbouring Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

However, this is the first attack on a Shia mosque in the Gulf state.

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Sabah described the attack as an attempt to threaten national unity and added that it would be too difficult for the terrorists to accomplish the task as the nation was much stronger than that. (ANI)
