There were reports in Bollywood trade media some months ago that Deepika Padukone wanted the lead role in Vishal Bardwaj’s “Rangoon”.
However, the director selected Kangana Ranaut, because he felt she was more suitable in the role.
‘Rangoon’ is a period romance drama, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. and is set during World War II. It stars Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor, and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles. Also, Kangana Ranaut will be traveling to New York City to research her role, and will head to an island in Mexico to learn solo living. The film is scheduled for release on 24 February 2017.
Now, according to reports, Kangana wanted desperately to be in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film “Rani Padmavati”. She sent many feelers to Bhansali and even contacted him directly.
The ‘Queen’ star’s request was rejected by Bhansali on the grounds that she didn’t fit the character of a real queen. “Rani Padmavati” tells the story of the valiant queen of Chittoor, who killed herself to prevent her capture by the brutal Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh. – CINEWS
