Trivandrum, July 4 (ANI): Renu Raj, a doctor from Kerala, who bagged the second position in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil service exams, on Saturday, said she did not expect such a result in her very first attempt.
“I am very surprised. I thought I will be somewhere in the list. This is my first experience. I was not well aware how good it would be. I thought I may need to write once again. So, I applied for this year’s exam also, I started preparations,” she told ANI.
Renu, who is a graduate in medicine, said that her ambition was to qualify in the Civil Services examinations.
She also said that her family was very supportive and it was her parents who had motivated her since her school days.
The UPSC results this year have seen four women grab the top five spots.
A total of 1,236 candidates have been recommended for appointment to IAS, IFS, IPS and central services in the results announced on Saturday afternoon.
A total of 254 candidates have also been kept in a consolidated reserved list.
Candidate Ira Singhal topped the examination, with Renu Raj and Nidhi Gupta coming second and third respectively. (ANI)
