Does Brampton need a mega mall?

Brampton, April 8 (CINEWS): This is a decision that has to be made by the OMB (Ontario Municipal Board). brampton
The proposed Osmington mall is to be built on 92 acres at Bovaird Drive and Mississauga Road. It isn’t just a mall, included in the plans are apartment buildings, a movie theatre and a hotel.
But Morguard, owner of Bramalea City Centre, has been against this proposal on the grounds that there isn’t a large enough population base to support such a retail development.
Needless to add, this mega-mall would affect business at Bramalea City Centre which only recently invested millions in a massive expansion.
A hearing is set for Sept. 13, 2016. Because it is under appeal, the final application decision is up to the OMB tribunal.
The Osmington development would be done over three phases with Phase 1, calling for a 1.2-million sq. ft. (111,485-square-metre) enclosed mall and additional retail spaces.
This is a $1 billion investment which will create 4,600 jobs and bring 6,000 inhabitants to the area.
Meanwhile some residents living in south Brampton welcome more retail in the northern end as shopping establishments mostly concentrated in the more developed south are crowded with shoppers from the north. Residents in the north aren’t complaining about the convenience and the jobs that would be generated in the area as a result.

Why should we be granting Bramalea City Centre a monopoly. More stores better prices!

Its obvious BCC is only looking after its own business interests.
But why their petition was even accepted by OMB is beyond me. Thank God, those NIMBYs from old Brampton have not complained, yet.

Brampton is building more houses than retail space for a crazy growing population. The city needs diversity and options, why would we close the doors for such a RARE expansion. I really hope everything works out better for the general population and not for the people who clearly don’t live in Brampton.
