New Delhi, Feb.11 (ANI): Reacting to 26/11 conspirator David Coleman Headley’s statement to a Mumbai special court that Ishrat Jahan was a Lashkar suicide affiliate, the Congress Party on Thursday said that it was not permissible to extrapolate the testimony to justify a ‘fake’ encounter.
Congress leader Manish Tewari said that the Indian law does not allow fake encounters and therefore it was not right to try and extrapolate the testimony to justify an encounter which the CBI and the court-monitored investigation has found to be fake
“David Headley has made some assertions, let them be investigated. But to try and extrapolate that testimony to justify an encounter which the CBI and the court-monitored investigation has found to be fake, is by no stretch of way permissible. The Indian law or Indian jurisprudence does not allow fake encounters,” Tewari told ANI.
“In this case, there was a court monitored investigation which came to a certain conclusion that the encounter was fake and a chargesheet has been filed against the accused persons. If they feel they are innocent, they will have their day in court. But to try and politically use Headley’s testimony to try and say that fake encounter is justified does not wash,” he added.
The deposition of David Coleman Headley began before a special Mumbai court on Thursday where he is revealing the sequence of events and planning behind the 26/11 terror attacks.
He also named Ishrat Jahan and said she was a Lashkar suicide bomber. (ANI)
