Don’t mock farmers with ‘insulting and insensitive remark’: Congress tells Govt.

New Delhi, July 24 (ANI): Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Friday questioned the BJP-led government’s methodology of calculating the farmers’ suicides and said that Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has mocked the farming community with his insensitive ‘love affairs for suicides’ remark.

“What an insulting and insensitive remark! First they change the methodology to calculate farmer suicides and now mock at them,” Patel told ANI.

Singh had earlier said that love affairs or impotency was the cause of death of more than 1,400 farmers in India this year.

“According to the National Crime Records Bureau, causes of (farmer) suicides include family problems, illness, drugs… dowry, love affairs and impotency,” he said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Agriculture Minister, however, did not rule out debt as one of the reasons. (ANI)
