New Delhi, Mar. 12 (ANI): The Election Commission has proposed two-year imprisonment for candidates furnishing false information in the affidavits while filing nominations for the elections.
Inaugurating a two-day National Conference on Electoral and Political Reforms organized by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) in Hyderabad, Chief Election Commissioner Syed Nasim Ahmed Zaidi said Section 29-b of the Representation of Peoples’ Act needs to be amended to check funding of political parties through Electoral Trust.
Paid news should be considered as electoral offence and the candidates will be punished with two-year imprisonment, he added.
Referring to linking of Adhar Number with the Voter Identity Cards, he said 23 out of total 85 crore voters in the country have already been covered. (ANI)
