London, Sept. 8 (ANI): Egyptian agriculture minister Salah El Din Mahmoud Helal has been arrested in connection with corruption allegations shortly after he resigned on Monday.
According to The Guardian, Helal was arrested along with other ministry officials on suspicion of taking bribes in exchange for granting land licenses.
Helal was not immediately available for a comment but the Prime Minister’s office said that his resignation was accepted on President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s instructions.
Egypt has embarked on various reforms to strengthen the country’s economy that has been battered since former president Hosni Mubarak was ousted in 2011.
However, recent efforts to reform agriculture have seemed to be chaotic. (ANI)
