Egypt’s new coach vows to play more attractive football

Cairo, Aug 2 (IANS) Mexican Javier Aguirre was presented on Thursday as Egypt’s new head coach for four years, promising to play pleasing, offensive football for the fans.

Aguirre succeeds Argentine Hector Cuper whose contract was not renewed as Egypt were eliminated in the first round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup without earning a single point, reports Efe.

Aguirre, the former Japan and Mexico coach said that he is excited about his first coaching experience in Africa, adding that his objective is for his team to take the initiative and to develop a more attractive, fan-friendly playing style which features goal-scoring.

During the press conference, the head of Egyptian Football Association Hany Abu Reida revealed Aguirre’s salary will be $120,000 per month, plus incentives should the team win the Africa Cup of Nations, and another $500,000 should he lead them to the 2022 World Cup.

Abu Reida acknowledged that Aguirre inherits a structure that has been built by Cuper, who led the Egyptian national team from 2015 to 2018.

Egypt’s appearance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup was the first in 28 years.
