London, April 17 (IANS/EFE) British singer-songwriter Elton John and novelist J.K. Rowling have topped the list of the most generous celebrities in the country for donating millions to charity in 2015.
According to the Sunday Times, Elton John donated 26.8 million pounds (around $38 million) in 2015 for the benefit of various charity initiatives, including his Elton John AIDS Foundation in Britain and the US.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling allocated around $14 million for the benefit of two NGOs — the Lumos Foundation, which aims to end the institutionalising of children by 2050, and the Volant Charitable Trust, which funds projects that alleviate social deprivation, as well as research into multiple sclerosis.
Former English soccer player David Beckham made it to the list with significant contributions to charity, as he raised around $7 million.
The list also includes celebrities in different fields, such as musicians Brian May and Roger Taylor, as well as chef Jamie Oliver and English-Irish pop boy band One Direction.
