‘Everything will now be alright’: Nirmal Singh after Mehbooba-PM meet

Jammu, Mar. 22 (ANI): Terming the meeting between People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘positive’, former deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh on Tuesday said the ice has been finally broken over the PDP-BJP Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

“It’s a very positive development because the people in Jammu and Kashmir were looking for the establishment of a popular government there. Now, the meeting has been held and I think whatever doubts or whatever apprehensions our alliance party had, have been cleared now. We were very much clear right from the beginning, but they had certain doubts. Now, everything would be alright,” Singh told ANI.

“That’s our stand right from day one when this alliance was made.because we took two months to form the alliance and frame that agenda of alliance and we worked on that for ten months. As per Mufti Sahab’s statements, he was very happy with the agenda of alliance. Unfortunately, he is not amongst us and ultimately this situation was created. Right from day one, we are saying that we are committed to the alliance,” he added.

Singh further stated that if Mufti Mohammad Sayeed would have been alive then there would have been a discussion on the future course of action.

“I think same course shall be taken up. I think there was no hurdle. She was asking for some clarifications. I think everything is clear now as per her statement,” he added.

Mehbooba met Prime Minister Modi at his official 7, Race Course Road (RCR) residence in the national capital in a bid to end the impasse over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Stalemate in Jammu and Kashmir is continuing since the last two to three months. I feel positive after meeting the Prime Minister. I have called a legislature party meeting on Thursday and will take further decision there,” she told the media after the meeting.

The state is under Governor’s rule since the death of chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed three months back.

The PDP-BJP negotiations had hit a roadblock last week when Mehbooba returned to Srinagar on Saturday morning as her expected meeting with Prime Minister Modi to seal a deal did not take place. (ANI)
