New Delhi, Nov. 10 (ANI): Backing the scathing statement issued by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leaders today slamming the party top brass for the Bihar debacle, the Congress said this was proof that the senior leader of the party were ‘suffocating’ under the leadership and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will face the consequences if he does not listen to his own ‘margdarshaks’
“Suffocation of the BJP’s senior most leaders including Advani ji is out in the open now and fireworks seem to have begun much before Diwali. The margdarshak madal has said what the nation knew till today that the country is caught up in a personality cult, where one individual has become bigger than 120 crore Indians,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told ANI.
Stressing that there was no place for the word ‘I’ in democracy, he attacked Prime Minister Modi’s ‘one way’ brand of communication saying the latter does his own ‘Mann ki Baat’ but listens to no one and that affects the nation.
“Sincerely hope that the sane advice of the margdarshaks will lead to introspection by the Prime Minister and Amit Shah on their attitude,” Surjewala added.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi also said the open spat between the BJP veterans and the party top brass indicated that the end of the ruling party was near.
“On the eve of Diwali, we are witnessing the first fireworks. No surprises there,” Congress leader and former finance minister P. Chidambaram tweeted.
Party veterans L.K. Advani, M.M. Joshi, Shanta Kumar and Yashwant Sinha in a scathing statement today said that the party leadership had clearly leant nothing from their loss in the Delhi Assembly elections.
“The results of the Bihar elections show that no lesson has been learnt, from the fiasco in Delhi. To say that everyone is responsible for the defeat in Bihar is to ensure that no one is held responsible,” the veterans said in statement.
“It shows that those who would have appropriated credit if the Party had won are bent on shrugging off responsibility for the disastrous showing in Bihar,” it added.
The BJP bigwigs asserted that the principal reason for the latest defeat was the way the party has been ’emasculated’ in the Delhi polls last year.
In a veiled attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, the statement added that the review of the loss must not be done by those who ‘managed as were responsible’ for the Bihar campaign. (ANI)
