Disgraced and sidelined Brampton East Independent MP Raj Grewal said he remains undecided on his plans to run for his seat in the upcoming October federal election.
At a student protest at city hall May 4, MP Grewal had this to say: “To be honest, I haven’t decided. I’m just taking it one day at a time,” Grewal told the Brampton Guardian.
“I will say I thank the people of Brampton East for sticking with me and helping through this trying time. But you come out of these things stronger, more focused and I’m just taking things day to day.”
Grewal, who now sits as an independent in the federal legislature, was ejected from the Liberal party caucus in December 2018 after reversing an earlier pledge to resign for “personal and medical reasons” on his Facebook page on Nov. 22.
Grewal it may be recalled was forced out of the Liberal caucus after admitting to a gambling addiction and large debts as a result. However, he changed his mind after announcing he had paid off those debts, received treatment for his gambling addiction and claimed he was a reformed person, but the party opted not to readmit him to caucus.
The Liberal party, which won all five Brampton ridings in the 2014 election, hadn’t yet named a candidate to replace Grewal to run in Brampton East as of May 7. -CINEWS
