Remember Edmonton Mill Woods, Calgary MP Tim Uppal who was seen as the up and coming Alberta MP? Well after losing his seat by a mere 92 seats to Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Natural Resources, Uppal is looking to win back his seat. Given the current climate in Albert that should not be too difficult.

Tim Uppal, who served as a minister of state in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet for almost four years, is nominated to run again in Edmonton Mill Woods.

The Conservatives who have 29 of the 34 seats can quite possibly hope for a few more seats. The spectre of Maxime Bernier’s new People’s Party of Canada may however change some of that optimism.

The Liberals won two seats in Calgary in 2015, but both the incumbents Kent Hehr and Calgary Skyview MP Darshan Kang have since faced harassment allegations. Hehr has been nominated to run again, but Kang who currently sits as an independent has yet to announce if he is running again.

Elections Canada data show the Conservatives consistently raise two or even three times as much money as the Liberals in Alberta, but in Edmonton, the Liberals raised more than the Tories in both the second and third quarter of 2018.

In the upcoming elections, the battle between Liberal Minister Amarjeet Sohi and Conservative Tim Uppal will be closely watched. -CINEWS
