Four arrested at Mumbai airport for smuggling gold

Mumbai, Feb. 10 (ANI): The customs department officials today arrested four persons from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai on charges of smuggling gold.

The officials recovered 24 gold bars weighing 2784 grams, which is valued at Rs. 73.93 lakhs.

The gold was recovered during the search of one Shaikh Mohammed Ajmal, who arrived from Dubai in a Jet Airways flight. He was intercepted after his clearance through the green channel.

Raghib Shaikh, who was waiting outside the airport to receive Ajmal, was also apprehended by the security officials.

The interrogation of the duo revealed that two employees of the Live Well ground staff were supposed to collect the gold from the passenger in the toilet of the arrival hall.

The officials later called Kianat Khan and Kiran Yadav to the airport for questioning during which they admitted that they were to take delivery of the gold. They were arrested post the interrogation. (ANI)
