Four injured in Shanghai airport explosion

Beijing, June 12 (IANS) At least four persons were injured in an explosion at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The accident happened around 2.20 p.m. near a check-in counter in Terminal 2, when what appears to be a homemade explosive blew up, Xinhua news agency quoted an official as saying.

Earlier it was reported that fire crackers caused the explosion.

The injured were receiving treatment at a local hospital.

One of the injured sustained a severe neck injury. An initial investigation found evidence suggesting that the man’s injury could have been self-induced.

The other injured include a Philippine man, 53, as well as a 67-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman both Chinese nationals. They sustained injuries to their heads, hands and legs, a doctor said.
