Four militants arrested in Assam

Guwahati, Sept. 30 (ANI): Security forces in Assam have arrested four hardcore militants hailing from different outfits and based in the state’s Chirang and Dima Hasao Districts.

Chirang District’s Superintendent of Police Ranjan Bhuyan said that a joint team of the police and the army apprehended the self-styled deputy commanding officer of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit faction, Udaychal Daimary.

He said that the militant was arrested from the Aie Powali area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Runikhata police station early this morning.

Daimary was reportedly involved in the killing of several innocent people in the state’s Baksa District last year.

In another related incident, state police arrested three militants of the Jadi Naiso Bojam outfit in Dima Hasao District last night.

Dima Hasao Superintendent of Police Dr. V. Shivaprasad Ganjala said that all the apprehended militants were close to the commander-in-chief of the outfit who was gunned down recently in an encounter.

Two pistols and ammunition were recovered from them. (ANI)
