Despite all the gimmicks like birdying into street potholes in Mumbai doesn’t seem to have done any magic to Nawazuddin Siddiqui and his film Freaky Ali to drive high into the box office on the first day.
The first golf flick in Bollywood saw a low opening on day one of its release on Friday.
The film has also got fewer screens compared to big release Baar Baar Dekho. The movie is expected to work on positive word of mouth. According to some media reports, Freaky Ali is expected to earn around 3-5 crores on the first day.
The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in leading role who plays a common man trying to excel at golf, considered to be a rich man’s game. Besides Nawazuddin, the movie also stars Amy Jackson and Arbaaz Khan.
Directed by Sohail Khan. The film is made on a low budget and targets a certain audience.
Salman Khan earlier promoted Freaky Ali at several events.
A critic who praises Nawaz says, “The one person who keeps us watching is Nawaz, who busily shakes a leg and romances a pretty girl (Amy Jackson) when he is not sinking a hole-in-one much to the consternation of his wealthy rival (Jas Arora). His connect with the audience is instant, and he keeps it going with wry one-liners which he delivers with consummate ease. It’s also nice to see him in a light-hearted role : except perhaps for his blundering TV reporter in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, he has been condemned to dark, twisted parts in dark, twisted flicks.”
However, it is too early to predict the overall performance of Freaky Ali. Coming week will be crucial. – CINEWS
