FTII row: Five-point solution provided to Jaitley, says Pookutty (Update)

New Delhi, July 3 (ANI): Oscar-winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty on Friday said a five-point solution was presented to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley as a part of deliberation over the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairperson of the FTII.

“The core issue regarding the present society is not been satisfactorily met. We have assurances from him that he will reconsider it. We have given a five-point solution as a part of deliberation,” Pookutty said after the meeting.

“There is a sanctity of the presently constituted society is being questioned by the students, by FTII. That part of issue has not been addressed satisfactorily. But that is not a closed chapter,” he added.

Pookutty said that the FTII student’s delegation suggested an interim committee be set up to look into the guidelines in which the FTII society has been formed and the function of the society and the kind of people that will hold positions.

“Those need to be re-examined. The Minister has said that he will consider it. It is positive I would say. But an issue like this cannot be resolved in one meeting,” Pookutty said.

Several students and alumni of the Pune-based institute had earlier staged a protest outside the Information and Broadcasting Ministry at Shastri Bhawan in the national capital over the appointment of Chauhan as the chairperson of the institution. (ANI)
