Peel Region is giving Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon residents a break on curbside waste collection restriction. It began on September 4 and ends September 13.

During the exemption period, residents receiving curbside pickup can place an unlimited amount of acceptable excess garbage at the curb without tags on their regularly scheduled garbage day.

While there are no restrictions on the number of bags residents may put out for pickup, there are restrictions on bag sizes.

Excess garbage bags cannot:
-Weigh more than 20 kilograms (44 pounds).
-Be larger than 66 centimetres (26 inches) wide and 90 cm (35 inches) high.
-Be smaller than 30 cm (12 inches) wide and 30 cm (12 inches) high.

The region is also asking residents to ensure there is at least a metre of space between excess bags and garbage/organic carts.

Residents are also reminded they can dispose of mattresses and furniture at the curb on their regularly scheduled garbage pickup day throughout the year. Excess garbage will not be collected if it placed at the curb on a recycling week. -CINEWS
