New Delhi, March. 5 (ANI): The Congress Party on Saturday slammed Minister of State for External Affairs General (retired) V.K. Singh for his recent remarks on JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kuamr, saying that the former Army chief had no credibility and none of his remarks should be taken seriously.

“General VK Singh has no credibility. We have heard General VK Singh comparing Dlait children with dogs. We know enough of him. Any statement given by him does not carry any weight. Nobody should take any statement by him seriously,” Congress leader Shobha Oza told ANI.

Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (CPI -M) leader Mohammed Salim dubbed the remark as ‘unfortunate’, and said that General Singh is known to make such ‘controversial’ statements.

“Mr. VK Singh, even before he became a minister, was controversial. He was always known for controversial comments. It is difficult to comment on his comment. It is unfortunate, a student movement is there, and these fellows who have never been in the campus as student leaders, how can they comment on students’ activities. He has no right o comment on Vemula,” Salim told ANI .

The Former Army Chief earlier targeted Kanhaiya Kumar for calling Rohith Vemula his inspiration, alleging that the Dalit scholar had organised a meeting in support of Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon.

“I read in newspapers today that a JNU student leader says that he does not draw inspiration from Afzal Guru but Rohith Vemula. I told myself that Rohith Vemula too had organised a meeting for Yakub Memon,” General Singh had said. (ANI)
