Germany’s benchmark DAX index closes up

Frankfurt, Sep 24 (IANS) The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Wednesday closed up slightly at 9,612.62 points.

Despite the VW emissions cheating scandal still escalating, the DAX index rose by 41.96 points and VW even topped the list of risers, Xinhua reported.

Volkswagen AG Vz rose by 5.19 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG added 3.94 percent. Merck KGaA, a pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company advanced by 1.88 percent.

The utilities company RWE AG St climbed by 1.59 percent. Beiersdorf Aktiengesellschaft, a skin care company, went up by 1.32 percent.

Infineon Technologies AG, a semiconductor company, lost 2.05 percent. ThyssenKrupp AG plunged by 1.29 percent. Deutsche Bank AG slipped by 0.77 percent. Commerzbank AG declined by 0.33 percent.

The turnover stood at 4.97 billion euros (around $5.57 billion). Volkswagen AG Vz was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 1.26 billion euros.
