Getting National Award for ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is very special: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

New Delhi, Mar. 29 (ANI): Ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who bagged the 63rd National Award in the category of Best Director for his magnum opus ‘Bajirao Mastani,’ said that winning the award was an honour for his dream project that was kept on hold for 12 years.

While addressing the media over his win, the 53-year-old actor said, “It feels really special. ‘Bajirao Mastani’ was my dreams since past 12 years, me and my team have worked a lot to fulfill this dream, so getting five national awards for it makes me really happy.”

“This is my first national award as a director so it is really special to me. As a director, this is a wonderful phase of my life and I feel the work I have done in past 25 years, I am getting its result now,” he added.

Further, congratulating Kangana Ranaut, who won the award in the Best Actress category, the filmmaker revealed that somewhere he wishes Deepika Padukone or Priyanka Chopra should have won it.

Sanjay said, “Kangana is wonderful in her own ways. Of course deep in my heart as the director and the producer of ‘Bajirao Mastani’ I would have loved Deepika or Priyanka to have won it because they gave a splendid performance, but if the jury thought that it should be given to Kangana, so she might have also done a wonderful job. I am very happy from Kanagana, but deep in my heart I wish that Deepika or Priyanka would have won it for Bajirao.”

Along with best director, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ also earned five other awards best supporting actress for Tanvi Azmi, best choreography for Remo D’Souza, best cinematography, production design and re-recording. (ANI)
