Metrolinx has announced major infrastructure upgrades in the Hamilton and other areas in the region that will affect numerous routes, including the Lakeshore West line into Mississauga.
The agency will be diverting service at some stations and implementing schedule changes along a few lines to accommodate the work.
The agency said work requiring service disruptions will be spread out across several weekends this fall.
“By reducing service on the weekend when there are fewer customers, we will get this work done faster, more safely and more efficiently,” read the release.
Lines impacted include both the Lakeshore East and West, as well as the Barrie GO lines. The UP Express train to Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga will also be affected.
“Customers travelling to and from Exhibition will have to transfer trains at Union Station. Customers who regularly use Mimico GO Station are encouraged to use Long Branch GO or the TTC as an alternative,” said Metrolinx, adding riders on both lines should prepare for an additional 10 to 15 minutes of travel time.
The first of these planned weekend service disruptions will start Sept. 8 to 9. While service on the Lakeshore East and West lines will operate hourly, Lakeshore West GO trains will not service stations west of the Long Branch GO station.
Metrolinx is encouraging riders to visit gotransit.com/servicechanges and upexpress.com before weekend travel throughout the fall months for a full list of affected routes and times. -CINEWS
