Michelle Rempel, Shadow Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of failing to carry out deportations for dangerous criminals from Canada and return them to their country of origin.
The number of removal orders that have been issued has skyrocketed in the last few years, and officials have confirmed that individuals are being ‘lost in the wind,’ she noted.
Rempel said in a statement: “By failing to remove dangerous criminals from Canada, the Trudeau government is undermining the integrity of our immigration system. Canadians expect that individuals who do not have a legal right to be here, or have committed a serious crime, must be removed from our country.
“It is no wonder the Liberal government is failing to deport dangerous criminals when the entire immigration system is facing significant backlogs. For a government that tweeted #welcometoCanada, it is completely unacceptable that the Liberals failed to address this issue in Budget 2018.
“Canada’s Conservatives believe in a compassionate immigration system that prioritizes the world’s most vulnerable, while also ensuring that those who play by the rules and enter Canada through legal channels are not forgotten. Justin Trudeau must answer for his failure to keep the most basic functions of our immigration system working.”
The reasons why so many dangerous criminals fail to get deported is often because their home countries either refuse to provide documents for their travel or there are anxieties raised that their lives would be in danger if they returned.
Critics charge that what ends up happening is that lives of Canadians are often in danger as a result of having dangerous criminals on our streets.
In many instances, criminals who’ve got deportation orders ten years ago are still in the country because of technical difficulties.
It is clear that the number of deportees keeps increasing. – CINEWS
