Gruesome Kerala murder: Son shoots father, chops body into pieces

Residents of Kochi, the commercial hub of Keral,a are still in shock after hearing about a gruesome tale of murder.

An IT engineer  who worked with a firm at Kochi’s prestigious Technopark has been arrested on charges of shooting dead his NRI father, chopping his body into six pieces and dumping them at different places in Kerala.

Sherin V Joy (39), is a native of Chengannur in Alappuzha district. He allegedly killed his father Joy V John (68), who is an American citizen and ho settled in Texas almost three decades ago. The deceased had come to Chengannur two weeks ago along with his wife Mariyamma, a nurse, and a younger son, who is a doctor in the United States.

Sherin was also brougth up in the US but had returned to Kerala in 2010 after his marriage to a local girl. The marriage, however, broke up a year later.

On May 25, the father and son had a fierce  argument over rent collected from one of their many properties in the city. The argument began when both of them travelled by their car from Trivandrum.

Sherin then got hold of his father’s gun to fire four rounds at point blank range, when the car reached a lonely road in the Mulakkuzha region.  Sherin then chopped up the body into several pieces, packed them in plastic bags and dumped them at various places along the route, driving for around 12 hours. The head was found in a place called Chingavanan, a hand in the Pampa river and other parts from various areas.

Police said that Sherin called his mother Mariyamma and said his father had been killed by an accidental gunshot. Mariyamma called police, who tracked Sherin to a hotel in downtown Kottayam two days later. He has confessed to the crime and also accompanied the police to places where he had dumped the body parts

Police said that Sherin had a relationship problem with his father, who wouldn’t give him a part of his wealth or properties. He has been remanded to judicial custody. – CINEWS
