Guwahati HC steps in Arunachal political crisis

Guwahati, Dec. 18 (ANI): The Guwahati High Court kept in abeyance all decisions taken by the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly in which it removed Speaker of the assembly Nabam Rebia.

Hearing a writ petition filed by the Speaker, Justice Hrishikesh Roy passed the order.

The Speaker had filed the petition challenging the notification issued by the Governor on advancing the state assembly session.

The next hearing will be held on February 1, 2016. Issuing notice, Justice Roy kept in abeyance the impugned decisions including the notification issued by the Deputy Speaker restoring the membership of 14 suspended MLAs. The Judge also put a stay on the holding of the Arunachal Pradesh session at a new place.

Meanwhile, on the second day of Winter Session, the Assembly was not opened for the Members. The sitting of the session was conducted at YT Hotel Naharlagun.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and other 26 members of the ruling Congress did not attend the sitting, terming it illegal and unconstitutional. However 33 members attended the house chaired by Deputy Speaker TN Thondok. They passed the no-confidence motion against Nabam Tuki-led Congress Government by voice vote.

They also unanimously declared Kalikho Pul the next Chief Minister. Later Deputy Speaker TN Thongdok adjourned the house sine die. (ANI)
