Halep insists `strong` Serena not invincible

Johannesburg, Feb.23 (ANI): World number four Simona Halep believes that Serena Williams’ dominance of women’s tennis can come to an end with every player having an equal chance of winning any tournament.

Insisting that every tournament is `open to win`, the 34-year-old said that she could too win a Grand Slam just as Angelique Kerber’s Australian Open victory and Flavia Pennetta’s US Open triumph.

Admitting that Serena is a very strong player, Halep said she has the confidence of defeating her and winning a title, Sport24 reported.

The Romanian called on the top 10 players to believe themselves that they could also beat the world number one.

The closest Halep has come to winning a Grand Slam was in Paris in 2014, when she lost to Maria Sharapova in the finals.

Halep, will now head into this week’s Qatar Open in Doha, where she will play against the world’s top five players, including Kerber, Agnieszka Radwanska, Garbine Muguruza. (ANI)
