Hannover, Jan 4 (IANS) Hoffenheim striker Adam Szalai has joined relegation threatened German football club Hannover on loan.
The Hungarian international made only four appearances for the ‘TSG’ this season, and overall 30 since his arrival in 2014. As a consequence, Szalai penned a loan contract at Hannover, including an option to make the deal permanent after the season, reports Xinhua.
“I am looking forward to the new challenge here. I hope that I can recommend myself for Hungary’s Euro 2016 squad. However, it is more important that Hannover stay up,” Szalai said.
The 28-year-old played one year at Schalke before moving to Hoffenheim in the summer of 2014 where he scored four goals in 30 games. Szalai made his international debut for Hungary in February 2009. He played 28 matches and marked eight goals ever since.
“Adam is since many years at home in Bundesliga. He already demonstrated in all other clubs that he can score goals. We are very confident that this is also the case here,” Hannover sporting director Martin Bader said.
Hannover face a tough second half of the campaign as they are 17th in the standings, a direct relegation spot, with only 14 points from 17 encounters. The ‘Reds’ face newly promoted Darmstadt for their kick-off after the winter break on January 23.
