Heat wave continues in Odisha

May 25 (IANS) With no respite from the blistering heat wave in Odisha, at least a dozen places in the state recorded day temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Bhabanipatna recorded highest temperature of 45.5 degree Celsius while Titlagarh town boiled at 45 degree Celsius, said the Bhubaneswar met department.

Temperature soared at 44.2 degrees Celsius in Jharsuguda, followed by Hirakud at 44.1 degrees and Bolangir at 43.5 degrees Celsius.

The met department said that heat wave would continue in the state for the next few days due to delay in arrival of monsoon in the state.

The state government has confirmed death of 20 persons due to sunstroke while it has received reports of 193 death cases so far.

“Out of 193 death cases, 81 have occurred due to some other reasons while 20 persons have died due to sunstroke. Other cases are under investigation,” said an official of special relief commissioner’s office.
