Chennai, Nov. 9 (ANI): The weather department on Monday said that heavy rains will continue to lash across Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours following a deep depression intensifying over the Bay of Bengal.
Incessant rains and heavy winds have been battering the state for the last few days. Heavy rains inundated many areas in Chennai, throwing normal life out of gear. Schools and colleges in the city continued to remain shut and people struggled to get to offices.
A cyclone alert has also been sounded in the state, though the weather department did not mention anything other than heavy rainfall as outcome of the depression.
“The deep depression which was lying 60 Kms east-southeast of Puducherry now lies around 40 kilometers east-southeast of Puducherry. The system has not moved much. Because of the system, it is likely to rain at most places in northern districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Few places may experience heavy rainfall; one or two places may experience very heavy rainfall as well as extremely heavy rainfall,” said Director of the regional meteorological department, Chennai, S.R. Ramanan.
He added that seas were rough and advised fishermen against venturing out into the waters. (ANI)
