Brampton, January 8 (CINEWS):  At the local Malton Community Centre, a group of Sikh seniors often gather around to discuss the state of affairs back in Punjab, but last week they were discussing what was happening in their own backyards- an increase in the number of break-ins has rattled the hard-working residents of this tired neighborhood.
Peel Regional Police patrolling Bramalea and Malton have responded to an increase in break-ins with a special project that has netted 12 suspected burglars.
The 21 Division Break and Enter Unit launched the special project two weeks ago and it is expected to continue into the new year.
In the first week, police laid 29 charges against 12 suspects.
Every year, Peel Regional Police receive more than 3,000 reports of residential and commercial break-ins across Brampton and Mississauga. Last year, 3,449 break-ins were reported.
Anyone with information about break-ins is encouraged to call the unit at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133, or [email protected]
Anonymous tips can also be left with Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting, or by sending a text message to CRIMES (274637) with the word “PEEL” and then your tip.
