Los Angeles, Feb 29 (IANS) Hungary’s “Son Of Saul” received the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre here on Sunday.

Directed by Laszlo Nemes, the story goes back to October 1944. Saul Auslander is a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando, a group of Jewish prisoners forced to lead other inmates in Auschwitz-Birkenau to their deaths and dispose of their bodies in the crematoriums. One day, Saul finds a young boy and, taking him for his son, tries to arrange for a proper Jewish funeral for him.

“Son of Saul” marked Hungary’s second Oscar win in the foreign language category.
