I learn from failure of ‘Baar Baar Dekho’, says Sidharth Malhotra

Sidharth…May be we failed but at least we tried something new.

Much-anticipated Baar Baar Dekho’s failure at the box office has been accepted as a part of the learning curve by its lead actor Sidharth Malhotra.

He said that he would take the failure of Nitya Mehra’s directorial debut as an example and will now be more conscious in the future about the modalities of how the film is shaping up.

After picking a good pace at the box office initially, the movie is supposed to have failed due to bad word of mouth.  This hampered the overall box office business and the film stayed below expectations. The movie managed to mint only Rs. 27.98 crore at the box office in six days of its release.

Not many actors in Bollywood come out in public to accept their film failure. Sidharth, who is only six films old, has opened about the disappointing performance of his film.

Sidharth, who shot to fame with Karan Johar’s directorial Student Of The Year says he never questions his choices but only questions the methods and processes in the movie-making business. And the one thing that Baar Baar Dekho’s failure has taught Sidharth is to have an expert advice on the methods of filmmaking.

“For example, one must take advice on how a film is shaping up from those who have more experience. When I heard the script for Baar Baar Dekho, it was one of the most exciting ideas I had come across. What a lovely thought! The heart was in the right place. The experience has made me more conscious of my future. Had Baar Baar Dekho worked better maybe I wouldn’t be so careful with the modalities of making a film. But I am still going to choose only those scripts that I believe in. I stand by my choices. If I like a script and a role, it doesn’t matter how many other actors are there or how many scenes I have. All the films that I’ve done so far tell stories that I want to tell,” he said.

Though the movie fell flat at the box office, Sidharth is happy with the fact that at least he tried something new and will be more cautious in the future.

“May be we failed. But at least we tried something new. Now I know if I meet a first-time director I’ll be wary. Or if I write a script I’ll be thinking anxiously about whether it works for me as a member of the audience,” he said.

It was directed by Nitya Mehra, a Bollywood first timer. She has worked in television and and as an assistant director in films like Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and Mira Nair films The Namesake and The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

Baar Baar Dekho also stars Katrina Kaif in the lead role. – CINEWS
