Bengaluru, Mar 23 (ANI): India kept their semifinals hopes alive after claiming a thrilling one-run win over Bangladesh in their third group game of the World Twenty20 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
Put in to bat first, India made 146 for seven on a slow track in their stipulated 20 overs with Suresh Raina top scoring with 30.
Star batsman Virat Kohli and opener Shikhar Dhawan were other notable scorers for the hosts with their respective scores of 24 and 23.
In reply, Bangladesh got off to a promising start as Tamim Iqbal (35) and Sabbir Rahman (26 off 15 balls) stitched a 44-run partnership for the second wicket.
Bangladesh were on course to pull off their first ever T20 win over India, needing only two runs off the last three bowls.
However, the Mashrafe Mortaza-led side agonizingly fell short of one run after Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni ran out Mustafizur Rahman in the last ball of the game.
Bangladesh lost three wickets in the last three deliveries of Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, a result which confirmed their exit from the tournament.
Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his figures of 2-20, while Ravindra Jadeja and Pandya bagged two wickets a piece.
India will next play against Australia in their fourth group game in Mohali on Sunday in a bid to secure their spot in the semifinals. (ANI)
