India’s famous ‘Amma’ also known as Mata Amritanandamayi, will be in Toronto from Monday, July 11 to July 14, meeting several thousands of her admirers. Last year, she received over 7000 people in two days during two evening sessions which ended only in the early mornings. It is estimated that throughout her life, ‘Amma’ (Mother) has embraced and comforted more than 34 million people across the world.
A four-day “Meet and Hug” and special retreat programs have been scheduled at the International Plaza Hotel International Plaza Hotel, 655 Dixon Road, Toronto., Mata Amritanandamayi has been coming to Toronto for several years now and she also has an 11 acre ashram and organic farm in Halton Hills.
Toronto is her final halt in a 2-month tour of North America, where she is covering 12 cites, including Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, New York and Chicago. She leaves for Japan on July 14.
Her North American headquarters are in the sprawling hills of San Ramon in California and there are centres in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Los Angeles, Washington DC and New England. In Canada, there are smaller centers in 11 cities, besides the ashram in Toronto. These centres are involved in charitable works – running soup kitchens, environmental cleanup, organic farming and running free yoga and meditation classes. – CINEWS
