International kite festival takes off with flying colours in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Jan. 10 (ANI): The skyline of Ahmedabad wore a vibrant look on Sunday as the 27th International Kite Festival kicked off with fliers from over 30 countries joining the riot of colours.

Kite festivals were held across Gujarat during the last week, which culminated to the one organised at the Sabarmati riverfront, which was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and Governor O.P. Kohli.

“When you see kites soaring high, you see the reflection of your progress as well. So, it can be called a festival of growth and prosperity,” said Kohli.

As kites of various shapes and colours dotted the horizon, the international participants expressed their enthusiasm about the festival.

“The difference is incredible. This is so amazing in India. I can’t imagine the support from the local people. It’s absolutely amazing. I am excited about the festival. It’s unbelievable. We were in China a few months ago and it’s nothing compared to this. This is absolutely out of the world,” said an international participant.

A participant from Italy was all praise for the festival.

“It’s five times in Ahmedabad. It’s a very nice festival. I love this festival for the organisation and it’s a pleasure for me, an honour for me flying kites with this people,” he said.

The International Kite Festival is being celebrated in Gujarat since 1989. (ANI)
