Mumbai, Feb. 11 (ANI): Ejaz Naqvi, who was the defence lawyer in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case, on Thursday said David Coleman Headley’s revelations with regard to Ishrat Jahan has posed a challenge to the CBI and NIA to investigate whether the 19-year-old girl, who was killed in an alleged encounter in Gujarat, was on the path of assassination.
“In the confession statement given by Headley in America in 2010 also, he admitted of his association with the Lashkar-e-Taiba. He has reiterated the same points through video conferencing today in the 26/11 court. This is going to affect the Ishrat Jahan case,” Naqvi told ANI here.
“If her being a terrorist is coming from Headley, then it will definitely be investigated and a separate case will be initiated,” he added.
The lawyer further said the CBI has taken a very different view over the case from 2004-05 onwards and said that Ishrat Jahan was victim.
“But Headley has time and again said that various female modules including, Ishrat Jahan, was on the path of assassination. But none of the investigative teams have done investigations on this point. Thus, it is very much necessary for the CBI and NIA like agencies to investigate these points,” he added.
Ishrat, who was from Mumbra in Mumbai, was shot dead along with three men in Gujarat in 2004 by police officers who claimed that they were terrorists involved in a plot to kill Narendra Modi, then the Chief Minister. (ANI)
