Tehran, July 4 (IANS) The Islamic State terror group was behind a foiled bombing plot against the Iranian capital Tehran, the media reported on Monday.

The plotters, who received $667,500 from the IS, got their cars fixed with number plates from Tehran and nearby cities for potential bombings, Xinhua news agency quoted the confessions of one of the detained terrorist suspects.

On June 20, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry in a statement said it has thwarted “one of the biggest terrorist plots” targeting Tehran and other cities.

“In the operations by the Intelligence Ministry, the terrorists were detained with a number of bombs and a sizeable amount of materials for making bombs was seized from the terrorists,” the official said.
