An Islamic outfit in Tamil Nadu has opposed the installation of former president of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s statue at his burial site at Pei Karumbu near Rameswaram in the southern Indian state.
The Ramanathapuram District Jamaathul Ulama Council said in a statement that the nstallation of statue was against the Muslim personal law.
“Islam is against ‘idol’ worship of any kind and any individual eulogy,” A Valiyulla Noori, president of the council, said.
“The best way to honour Dr Kalam would be to follow his ideals and realise his vision for a stronger and developed India,” he explained. “The statue is not right.” – CINEWS
