New Delhi, Nov 3 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said he was willing to reach out to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to get the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Bill passed in Parliament.
“I would try and persuade the main opposition party to help clear the Bill as soon as possible, because it is going to be one of the most important reforms in the country,” Jaitley told to a private TV channel.
The GST, which will subsume more than a dozen state levies to create a single market, is to be implemented from April next year. But, the deadline may be missed if Parliament does not pass the Constitution Amendment Bill in the upcoming winter session. The Congress is opposed to some provisions of the Bill.
Replying to a question, Jaitley also praised the RBI for slashing the benchmark interest rate, but remained non-committal on extension to Governor Raghuram Rajan. (ANI)
