Jat unrest: Security forces use tear gas to disperse protestors at Munak Canal

Chandigarh, Feb.21 (ANI): The security forces used tear-gas shells to disperse the protestors at the Munak Canal on the Delhi-Haryana border this afternoon amidst the ongoing pro-reservation protest by the Jat community.

The security personnel, who have been deployed on the site, are trying to remove the agitators who have been protesting from the last seven days.

The Jat protestors have also blocked NH 8 near Jaisinghpur Khera of Rewari district.

Meanwhile, the police baton charged the protestors, who have blocked the National Highway (NH 2) in Faridabad.

Chandigarh-Shimla Highway, which was blocked by the agitators near Old Panchkula, has now been opened.

At least 10 people have been killed and 150 injured as protests by the Jat community in Haryana demanding status for Other Backward Classes (OBC) continued for the seventh day.

The Jat stir also hit Delhi with the Centre asking the Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana Government to ensure that the water supply to the national capital is not disrupted. (ANI)
