JNU row: Now, Jadavpur University take to streets

Kolkata, Feb 16 (ANI): Expressing solidarity with the protesting students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) demanding release of students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been booked on sedition charges, students of Jadavpur University on Tuesday evening took to the streets raising “inflammatory” slogans against the Narendra Modi Government.

After Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on Friday following a demonstration that authorities termed “anti-Indian”, a large number of students joined the protest, bringing the functioning of the prestigious university to standstill.

The JNU student union leader was arrested last week on charges of sedition for allegedly participating in an event on the campus to mark the anniversary of the execution of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, in which anti-India slogans were raised.

Meanwhile, journalists from different organisations today marched to the Supreme Court in protest against a mob violence outside the Patiala House court where lawyers and politicians allegedly manhandled them and JNU students. (ANI)
