In his keynote address Birju Maharaj ji stressed on recognising the essence of the art form in today’s fast changing world before leaving it as a thoughtful gift and treasure for the posterity. The evening recitals at the Mahotsava showcased Kathak in its traditional form by artists across styles, regions and generations.

“Prabhaati” -the morning sessions, held at Vivekananda Auditorium, in Kathak Kendra’s Chanakyapuri premises, was a very important part of the Mahotsava.

This is where Gurus, scholars, authors and connoisseurs connected to reflect on the essence of the art form and the directions of its various journeys. Well attended by students and young dancers, the morning sessions of Kathak Mahotsava have known to be a special source of guidance and inspiration for the passionate seeker of Kathak.

At the Kathak Kendra, a classical tradition is seen as a constantly evolving body of practices, attitudes, beliefs, skills and arts. Besides continuing and developing an ancient art tradition, the Kendra endeavours to keep alive the spirit of exchange, dialogue and debate amongst the dance fraternity.(ANI)
