Johannesburg, Jan. 31 (ANI): New Zealand claimed a thrilling three-wicket win over Pakistan in a rain-affected third and final one-day international in Auckland to secure the three-match series 2-0 on Sunday.

Initially set a target of 291 to win, New Zealand recovered from a disastrous start with captain Brendon McCullum dismissed for a first-ball duck, Sport24 reported.

Martin Guptill (82) and Kane Williamson (84) then restored stability with a record 159-run stand for the second wicket before a lengthy rain delay reduced the innings to 43 overs and the target was revised to 261.

Following the dismissal of both the set batsmen, the hosts suffered a middle-order batting collapse before Mitchell Santner struck two fours in the tense final over to seal the victory with two balls to spare.

Earlier, Pakistan relied on crucial knocks from Mohammad Hafeez (76) and Babar Azam (83) before being bundled out for 290 within 47.3 overs.

New Zealand also defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the preceding Twenty20 series and had earlier trounced Sri Lanka in Tests, ODIs and T20s. (ANI)
