Konkona Sen Sharma says she chooses films primarily on the basis of their content.
“I choose movies that appeal to me. Also, I believe that if a film is made well, the financial aspect doesn’t matter,” she says.
She has received rave reviews for her portrayal of varied characters.
Konkona will soon be seen in a movie that revolves around four women who are longing for freedom. The actor says that women-centric films are doing well because of the stories that are being told today.
“Films like Mary Kom (2014) and Neerja worked because they are well-made productions. Other than the fact that they have a woman as the protagonist, they are great stories,” she says.
According to Konkona, male actors are given preference over female ones mainly in commercial films. “These things happen usually with films that are financially viable or follow some kind of mainstream, conventional format. The films may not always do well, but a large amount of money is spent on them,” she says.
Konkona says that when it comes to choosing good content, the Indian audience needs to make an effort. “There is some quality control that needs to be done. We are busy watching stupid reality television shows. I would say that the way we are careful about what we eat, we should be careful about what we feed our minds as well.” – CINEWS
