Bollywood filmmaker Rakesh Roshan is not willing to move the release date of Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil as he “announced the date earlier’. However, he is ready to postpone the release of Krrish 4 to avoid a box office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s next directed by Aanand L Rai. Kaabil and Raees are set to clash at the box office.
Roshan had earlier announced he is developing the next instalment of the Krrish franchise and would release it over the Christmas 2018 weekend. And SRK’s film is also slated to hit theatres on the same date.
The filmmaker said that he decided to pull back his superhero film as SRK’s Red Chillies announced their film first. Both films were supposed to come out in December next year.
However, he has refused to move Hrithik’s Kaabil for SRK’s Raees as the Roshans had announced the date for their film first. Shah Rukh had pulled out Raees which was supposed to clash with Salman Khan’s Sultan at the box office in July. He had then zeroes in on Republic Day in 2017 as the release date.
Rakesh said, “It is unethical for me to release my film on this date as Shah Rukh has already announced his movie… I had announced the date for Kaabil earlier. If they are coming on the same date, then I can’t do anything about it.”
He said, “I don’t know what they will eventually decide. We’re here to make films, not create controversies. As far as Shah Rukh is concerned, he’s like a younger brother to me. I gave him a break in King Uncle, and then worked with him in Karan Arjun and Koyla.”
Shah Rukh had paid a late-night visit to the Roshan home to work out modalities of Raees vs Kaabil clash but to no avail. “Met friend/mentor/family after many a days.Mr. R.Roshan reminded me…it’s not important to do 2 much, it’s important to get 1 right. Thx sir,” SRK had tweeted.
Rakesh stands by his decision: “I don’t move my release date, if I have announced it first. When Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai was releasing on January 14, 2000, Aamir Khan’s Mela was coming on January 7, Shah Rukh’s Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani on January 21 and Anil Kapoor’s Pukar on February 4. Some distributors suggested I move my film as Hrithik was a newcomer. They left the film because I didn’t change my release date.” – CINEWS
