Lalit Modi row: Raje rubbishes ‘baseless’ reports

New Delhi, June 26 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday refuted reports of personally calling her MLAs to seek their support and loyalty describing them as ‘baseless’.

“Once again some sections of the media are running baseless stories saying Vasundhara Raje personally called the MLAs seeking their support and loyalty. This news is totally untrue,” said a statement issued by her media advisor.

“I appeal to the media to check and verify facts before running their stories,” he added.

According to reports, Raje had been banking on the support of her loyal MLAs in Rajasthan for the last two days as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central leadership kept silent on the controversy surrounding former IPL boss Lalit Modi.

The BJP, which has been defending External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj despite opposition demands that she be sacked for helping Lalit Modi, was hit with another worry last week when the former IPL boss claimed that Raje secretly supported his immigration plea in Britain.

The opposition mounted pressure on Raje after the emergence of a letter reportedly carrying her signature in which she backs Lalit Modi’s application in the UK. (ANI)
