Colombo,Feb 9(ANI): Indian fishermen have accused the Sri Lankan Navy of damaging their fishing nets and chasing them back into Indian territorial waters while they were fishing near the Katchatheevu Islet today.
A fishermen association official in Rameswaram reportedly said that the nets of 30 fishermen boats were damaged allegedly by Sri Lankan naval personnel near the Katchatheevu Islet.
The fishermen, part of a group of about 2,500, had gone out to sea early this morning in 640 boats and returned without their daily catch, reports the Lanka Page website.
P. Sesuraja, the secretary of the association, alleged that an unusually large number of naval personnel present in the area damaged the nets and chased the fishermen back into Indian territorial waters.(ANI)
