Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu), Dec. 31 (ANI): The Sri Lankan Navy on Thursday arrested 29 fishermen from Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam district.
Earlier On December 22, the Sri Lankan Navy had arrested four Tamil fishermen and detained one fishing boat when they were fishing near international waters.
Meanwhile, the ruling AIADMK today decided in its general council meeting to insist the Centre to facilitate a meeting between the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Sri Lankan Government on the fishermen issue.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had earlier written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi voicing her concern at recurring instances of such arrests. (ANI)
